Eileen Gleeson wants to continue as Ireland manager – even if her side fail to reach Euro 2025.

Ireland face Wales in a two-legged play-off in the race to reach the Swiss showpiece next summer.

Gleeson’s short-term contract only covers this campaign but after announcing the squad that she hopes extends her country’s involvement in the Euros, she will also hope that they can prolong her time in the job too.

“I mean I’m thoroughly enjoying it,” said Gleeson, who admitted there have not been any talks on a new deal.

“I love the role, but for me, it’s full focus on the play-offs. I think about nothing else, only these games against Wales.

“I want to continue, I love being in the job, I’ve thoroughly enjoyed it and that’s the way I want it to continue. But right now the focus is on getting these two games done.”

Since then, her former role has been filled by Hannah Dingley but many candidates had reportedly distanced themselves from the position given the short-term nature of the contract which, it was suspected, was designed so that the FAI could return Gleeson to the role. That is now unlikely.

However, qualification for next summer would almost certainly guarantee Gleeson a new deal as senior manager.
